Jacob rent his clothes...

... but you can buy your own, at the Bible Study for Atheists Store.

A bs4a shirt or tchotchke — complete with an out-of-context Bible quote — makes a great holiday gift for that secular someone! More quotes and products will be coming online soon.

You should go for the more incisive quotes, those that make the Bible look moralless and machiavelic. I'd buy one.

FA,

Thanks. I'm all ears for suggestions.

I have a list of a few offbeat quotes from Exodus and up through Leviticus 9, which I'll add to the store first chance I get.

I'm sure there are many interesting quotes in the forthcoming chapters, but I'm going to resist getting ahead of myself.

Any quotes in the chapters up 'til now strike you as shirt-worthy?

Perhaps there could also be visual depictions of some of the more sordid moments in Scripture, such as Lot banging his daughters, Noah's son uncovering his "nakedness", and so forth.

Dr. S.,

Thanks for another interesting suggestion. For the short term, I'll be adding more of the quotation items but perhaps later I can expand the product line. Can't say as I'm expecting these to go like unleavened hotcakes, in any case.

I personally love Judges 19:22-29, even though it's a long passage and not a quote (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Judges%2019:22-29;&version=47;).

Killing those who work on the Sabbath is worth putting on a shirt.

But you definitely have to go for the crazy stuff that has punch. And don't wait, look for it now even if it's further ahead otherwise it will take you years to get to it and we'll be in the middle of a holy war before then.

FA,

I'm a very impatient person, so this is the most patient process I've ever put myself though (family matters, aside).

Every once in a while I'll search the Bible for a handy phrase for a blog post elsewhere, but I'm going to keep things linear here 'cause it's more of an adventure that way.

Perhaps I could do a shirt about the top ten lessons of the Pentateuch when the time comes. Killing Sabbath day workers is definitely one of the best. And now we add incense users to that list....

Guys, for those t-shirts etc with bible verses try www.cafepress.com/landoverbaptist. Ezekiel 23:20 is a classic.
