86 The golden spoons were twelve, full of incense, weighing ten shekels apiece, after the shekel of the sanctuary: all the gold of the spoons was an hundred and twenty shekels.
87 All the oxen for the burnt offering were twelve bullocks, the rams twelve, the lambs of the first year twelve, with their meat offering: and the kids of the goats for sin offering twelve.
88 And all the oxen for the sacrifice of the peace offerings were twenty and four bullocks, the rams sixty, the he goats sixty, the lambs of the first year sixty. This was the dedication of the altar, after that it was anointed.
89 And when Moses was gone into the tabernacle of the congregation to speak with him, then he heard the voice of one speaking unto him from off the mercy seat that was upon the ark of testimony, from between the two cherubims: and he spake unto him.
For starters: a half-wagon and an ox each. Easier to do than give a whole wagon and a half-ox each.
Moses regifted the wheels and the beasts to the Levites — but none to sons of Kohath, because I guess Moe's own subtribe needed the exercise.
Then, in an act of mind-numbing repetition to rival "The Twelve Days of Christmas," Mr. Bible Writer Man goes all "makes-Jack-a-dull-boy" and gives us a dozen one-a-day laps of a prince giving YHWH a big silver plate and bowl full of oily flour, a golden spoon full of incense, a young bullock (another ox), a ram, a lamb,
No doubt, nothing pleases a crowd of two-million people on a four-decade slog through the wilderness than to watch 252 animals used for a ritual sacrifice. This was, of course, before we had NASCAR.
As the chapter ends, Moses gets a more rarefied show. He enters the tent and hears "the voice of one speaking unto him from off the mercy seat that was upon the ark of testimony, from between the two cherubims: and he spake unto him." For someone who chats it up with God on a regular basis, this doesn't seem that notable. After a while, wouldn't you get a little jaded?

I started humming the Twelve Days of Christmas somewhere along in the fourteenth verse.
That's OK, right?
This chapter clearly references the narrative at the end of Exodus, and is from the same writer - one of the latest of the priestly writers who modified the original priestly source; note the mindless repetition, a characteristic of this particular author.
Its referring to dishes rather than plates, the Hebrew term refers to something with a cup like dent in it (the cognate in Arabic means "deep", and the Syriac cognate is used to describe the "cup" that acorns have). And the "bowl" is more of a "basin", for washing blood covered hands in.
Its also clearly made up; unrealistically, everyone brings exactly 1/2, 1, 6 or 12 of each type of item, AND each spoon weighs EXACTLY the same as the others, each dish weighs EXACTLY the same as the others.... 2 million people, and just 12 silver spoons, of inexplicably identical weight, between them.
The setting is indeed "the first day the tabernacle is constructed", the instructions on how to do so having been "given" over 30 chapters ago - remember, originally the priestly source just had the holiness code (Leviticus 17-26) between Exodus 21 and Numbers 10.
Technically, verse 89 was also from the original priestly code (and was once the only thing between the end of the holiness code and Numbers 10), but its unfinished; verse 89 is a lacuna ("lagoon"=a gap in the text, where something's gone missing), and really says "and he said to him, .....[actual speech]...", with the actual speech missing. What was originally said after verse 89 is lost (and it wasn't chapter 8). But the description in verse 89 is notable because its one of the only places in the surviving original priestly source that the whole ark-mercy seat-cherubim contraption is described at all (all those building instructions, back in exodus chapter 25-29 and 35-39, were later additions).
